On a chilly Thursday night, Durham United hosted Silksworth Colliery in a crucial Wearside League fixture. After a solid run of form, this game presented an opportunity for Durham to go top of the table for the first time this season.

Silksworth began the match strongly, applying early pressure on Durham's backline. However, United displayed great composure, confidently playing out from the back and neutralising the visitors' high press.

In midfield, Charlie Bramwell and Seb Hopkins provided a commanding presence, breaking up play and orchestrating Durham's attacks during the opening exchanges.

Durham gradually grew into the game and were rewarded in the 24th minute. Jonah Blake rose highest from a corner to meet a well-delivered cross, directing a powerful header into the far post. The Silksworth goalkeeper could do nothing but watch as the ball flew past him, giving Durham a well-deserved lead.

Buoyed by their opener, Durham doubled their advantage shortly after through Chris Wild. A cleverly worked short corner routine between Wild and Bramwell saw the defender receive the ball back on the edge of the box. From a tight angle, I coolly slotted the ball into the side netting, leaving the Silksworth defence and goalkeeper stunned.

Durham entered the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, having controlled much of the first half and limited Silksworth to only a few half-chances.

The second half began with chaotic, end-to-end football, as both sides looked to assert themselves. Silksworth created several opportunities, but Durham’s defensive resilience and smart goalkeeping from Patrick Dixon kept them at bay.

In the 69th minute, Durham put the game beyond doubt. Fred Walton delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Chris Seery, who calmly slotted past the onrushing Silksworth goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

Despite the deficit, Silksworth fought valiantly, creating a number of chances and testing the Durham defence. However, Durham remained disciplined and continued to threaten on the counterattack. In the final 10 minutes, Fin Gwillim came close to adding a fourth goal, but his effort narrowly missed the target.

Durham United managed the closing stages with professionalism, securing a clean sheet and a crucial 3-0 victory.

This result saw Durham climb to the top of the Wearside League standings for the first time this season, a testament to our hard work and consistent performances.
